FAQs
Answers to your burning questions!
What makes Pleasant Pet Sit's service special?
Unlike traditional dog boarding facilities, which often care for 20 to 50 dogs at a time in commercial spaces outfitted with kennels and group supervision, we provide a home-away-from-home experience tailored to your dog's unique needs. Dogs may spend much of their time in kennels, surrounded by unfamiliar dogs and stimuli. While some dogs adapt well to this environment, many feel stressed and miss the comforts of home. That’s where we come in!
At Pleasant Pet Sit, we offer a cozy, kennel-free environment where your pup is treated like family. Think of us as your friendly and reliable neighbor, giving your dog the same care and attention they’d receive at home.
Here’s what sets us apart:
• Familiar Comfort: Your pup can bring all their toys, beds, and accessories, making our space feel recognizable and comforting.
• Personalized Care: We incorporate your dog into our daily routine while honoring their specific needs and boundaries. Whether it’s administering medication, sticking to meal schedules, or providing a quiet, low-stimuli environment, we ensure their stay aligns with their home routine.
• One-on-One Attention: We only accept dogs from a single household at a time. This approach is perfect for pups that thrive on individualized care or need extra attention.
• Safety and Professionalism: We are Pet First Aid certified and Pet Boarding insured, giving you peace of mind while your dog is in our care.
When your pup stays with us, they aren’t just another guest—they’re family. Let us provide the personalized, stress-free care your dog deserves!
What type of pets do you board?
We welcome dogs of all breeds, sizes, and personalities! Over the years, we’ve cared for pups with a wide range of needs, including seniors, dogs with diabetes, epilepsy, or anxiety, and those requiring medications.
However, there are some factors we carefully consider to ensure your dog’s safety and comfort:
• Aggression or destructive habits
• Ability to be left alone
• Complex medical needs
• Transmittable diseases
• Vaccination status
• Flight risk
• Potty training
While none of these factors automatically disqualify your dog from staying with us, we’ll work closely with you to determine if ours is the best fit for their care. Your pet’s well-being is our top priority!
What is your service area?
Pleasant Pet Sit is located in the heart of Mount Pleasant, Vancouver, British Columbia. We proudly offer pet boarding services to families across the Lower Mainland, including Surrey, North Vancouver, Richmond, and surrounding areas.
Please note that we do not provide pet taxi services, so drop-off and pick-up arrangements are the responsibility of the pet’s family. However, if you need transportation assistance, we’d be happy to connect you with one of our trusted partners who specialize in pet taxi services.
How do you determine your pet sitting prices?
Our base rate starts at $60/night, which applies to small/medium-sized dogs with low/medium energy levels and no special medical, grooming, or behavioral needs. However, every dog is unique, and our rates are tailored to reflect the level of care your furry friend requires.
Factors that may affect the nightly rate include, but are not limited to:
• Energy Level: High-energy dogs requiring extensive or frequent exercise.
• Medical Needs: Dogs requiring medication or specialized care.
• Size: Dogs over 50 lbs may incur additional charges for physical demands.
• Grooming Needs: Dogs with special grooming or maintenance requirements.
• Behavioral Needs: Dogs with anxiety, behavioral quirks, or requiring extra supervision.
Rates for higher-needs dogs typically range from $70 to $90 per night, depending on their specific requirements. We also charge a premium for holidays and long weekends.
Discounts and Special Rates:
• 2nd Dog Discount: 50% off for a second dog from the same household.
• Extended Stay Discounts: Special rates may be available for longer stays.
To ensure transparency, we’ll confirm the exact rate after discussing your dog’s needs during an initial consultation or meet-and-greet. Contact us today to get a personalized quote and learn more about our services!
What's the earliest I can drop off my dog? What's the latest pick up time?
Drop-off and pick-up can happen anytime between 7:30 am and 9:30 pm. It's recommended that you drop-off your pups no later than 6 pm, to give them a chance to settle into our home before their first overnight away.
What do I need to bring for my doggo during its stay?
It's recommended that you make a list in advance (so you don't forget anything) and pack all objects that will make your pet's time with us more pleasurable! Here are some suggestions to get you started. Feel free to customize based on your pet’s unique needs:
• Comfort items: Bed, crate, toys, blanket, etc.
• Feeding essentials: pack enough food for the entire stay (with a little extra just in case), along with snacks and their food and water bowls. If on a special diet (raw, fresh or cooked), it's recommended to pre-freeze their meals into portions for us to manage throughout their stay.
• Outdoor gear: collar, harness, leash, any necessary rain, winter or seasonal gear, and plenty of poop bags.
• Health and care items: medications, supplements, toothbrush kit, brush, wet wipes, towels, etc.
• Your pup! Please make sure that your pup is ready and handsome for their staycation. This means that they're reasonably clean, defleaed, nails short and up-to-date with their vaccine calendar.
How do you ensure my dog gets the type of care they’re used to?
Providing personalized care is our top priority! To ensure your dog feels at home and receives the same level of care they’re accustomed to, we take the time to learn everything we can about your pup before their stay.
When you become a new client, we’ll send you a detailed intake form covering all aspects of your dog’s care, including:
• Feeding Instructions: Meal schedules, portion sizes, and dietary restrictions.
• Medical Needs: Medications, allergies, and health conditions.
• Training & Routines: Commands they know and habits they follow.
• Personality & Behavior: Social preferences, energy levels, and quirks.
• Comforts & Preferences: Favorite toys, sleeping arrangements, and activities they love.
This comprehensive approach helps us create a seamless transition and ensure your dog feels safe, comfortable, and cared for, just like they would at home. Rest assured, we treat every dog like family!
What can I expect during my pup’s stay with Pleasant Pet Sit?
At Pleasant Pet Sit, we aim to provide a comfortable and loving environment for your pup, ensuring their needs are met and they feel right at home.
Here's what you can expect:
• Daily Walks and Potty Breaks: Your pup will enjoy 2-3 potty breaks per day and either one long walk or two shorter walks, tailored to their energy level and routine.
• Feeding Schedule: We stick to your pup’s usual routine, providing 1-2 meal times based on their established feeding schedule.
• Personalized Care and Engagement: We’re home most of the day, so your pup will receive plenty of attention. This could include playtime, cuddles, or quiet time for naps—whatever suits their personality and preferences.

What's your booking process?
We’ve designed our booking process to ensure your pup’s stay is as smooth and comfortable as possible. Here’s how it works:
1. Meet & Greet:
Before a first-time booking, we schedule a Meet & Greet in a public setting. This is a great opportunity for us to meet in person, answer your questions, and determine if we’re the right fit for your needs. It also allows your dog to get familiar with us, so we’re not strangers when drop-off day arrives.
2. Onboarding Questionnaire:
After the Meet & Greet, all new clients complete an onboarding questionnaire. This helps us learn everything we need to know about your dog, including:
• Feeding and walking routines
• Likes, dislikes, and favorite activities
• Medical needs, habits, and personality traits
With this information, we can tailor our care to meet your dog’s unique needs and help them settle in quickly.
3. Booking Confirmation:
Once we confirm availability for your desired drop-off and pick-up dates, your booking is secured with a 50% deposit. The remaining balance will be due when you pick up your pup.
4. Streamlined Future Bookings:
For subsequent stays, the process is even easier! Since we already know your dog and have their information on file, all you need to do is confirm the dates, and we’ll take care of the rest.
We aim to make the process as straightforward as possible while ensuring your dog has a safe and happy stay with us.
How far in advance should I book a stay for my pups?
We recommend booking as early as possible to ensure availability, especially during busy seasons. If you're considering boarding your pets, even if your dates aren’t finalized, let us know early—this is particularly important for first-time clients, as we’ll need to complete the onboarding process before confirming your booking.
For the summer months, holidays and long weekends, which tend to fill up quickly, we suggest reaching out at least two months in advance for the best chance of securing a spot. During slower months, booking one month in advance is generally sufficient.
Please note: At this time, we typically don’t confirm bookings more than 90 days in advance.
What's your cancellation policy?
We totally understand that sometimes plans change! To accommodate this while still ensuring fairness, our cancellation policy is as follows:
• Cancellations made more than 10 days before Check-In:
Full refund of the 50% deposit.
• Cancellations made 10 days before Check-In:
50% of the deposit will be refunded.
• Cancellations made 3 or less days before Check-In:
The deposit is non-refundable.
• No-Show or Early Pick-Up:
The full booking amount (including the remaining balance) will be charged, as we reserve the time exclusively for your dog and may not be able to rebook the spot on short notice.
Holiday & Peak Season Policy:
For bookings during holidays or peak periods, cancellations must be made at least 14 days in advance for a full refund. Cancellations within 14 days of the check-in date will result in forfeiture of the 50% deposit.
